How hard is 13 Chrome steel?
According to Sumitomo Metals publications, the Maximum Rockwell C hardness values for their various 13 Chromes are as follows:
  • API L80 13CR: 23
  • SM 13CR 85: 24
  • SM 13CR 95: 27
  • SM 13CRM/S 95: 28
  • SM 13CRM/S 110: 32
How does this compare to regular P-110?
Although there is no API requirement for P110, that hardness range is approximately 25 to 28.

Are we going to exerience problems with setting packer slips into 13 Chrome pipe?
Generally there is no problem setting packers in S13Cr but the oxide produced during tempering can be quite hard and has caused some problems with slips and tongs.

Is it recommended to run special metallurgy on the packers and the slips when running 13Chrome?
As long as the wetted parts of the packer are also 13CRS you are ok.

Do packer slip marks act as stress raisers leading to potential problems over time?
If the packer fluid is compatible with the tubulars, there should be no stress riser issues.
